Luang Prabang attracts plenty of young backpackers and a buzzing entertainment scene has built up around them. Hive is the town's top dance venue with live DJs playing most nights. Outside the club, a small terrace with low tables provides a great place to chill and meet people, while inside, a long cocktail list fuels the party with local rice whisky adding an extra kick. Regular theme parties pull in the crowds, with elaborate decorations and a great atmosphere, as well as imaginative art created from recycled materials. Happy Hour every day from 5pm means two-for-one drinks.
Khob Chai and Lao Lao Garden are two more buzzing venues on the strip. The first used to be a gay club and sometimes hosts a Ladyboy Cabaret show. There's a good selection of drinks, many of them again based on Lao Whiskey, so there's always a lively atmosphere. Lao Lao Garden over the road is an outdoor venue with nightly bonfires and a festival atmosphere featuring live performances - both musical and artistic. The bar serves a wide range of food from traditional Lao-style 'barbecue' to western burgers and steaks. There's also a pool hall and sports bar next door for those with an urge to compete. Martin's Pub is another popular venue in pleasant setting with plenty of drink choices plus an extensive menu of pub grub and Asian favourites. Films are shown daily downstairs. Le Tam Tam Garden is another option, decorated with plants, fairy lights, and includes two pool tables and a karaoke bar.
More upmarket bars will undoubtedly spring up around Luang Prabang to cater for the more sophisticated travellers staying in the high end boutique hotels and villas around town. Pack Luck is one such venue on the main tourist strip and boasts an extensive wine list and stylish interiors decorated in deep red. Baravin offers a similar vibe a little further down the strip. The decor is less impressive but the drinks are a little cheaper.
